Intermission Ambience is run by Miki – an enthusiastic theatre fan and doctoral researcher focusing on Japan inspired theatre works!
My project Intermission Ambience started in 2021 as a way to share moments of happiness immersed in the magic of theatre and stories, and to discuss further about the potential of the artform.
The extended period at home during COVID in 2020-2021 reminded me how much I enjoy time spent at the theatre, for musicals and ballet. I love that moment as the first act ends with a rush of excitement, the bustle of the audience and the hum of chatter from the people around me, waiting for the next act to start! Similarly, it’s such a fantastic feeling when reading a great story and forgetting utterly about the time that’s passed, creating a little intermission with a bookmark inside the pages. I named this project to mark these exciting moments in life.
Intermission Ambience は舞台鑑賞が趣味で、今は舞台の研究もしているMikiが、コロナ禍のロンドンで2021年にスタートしたプロジェクトです。
ミュージカルやバレエの1幕が終わり、興奮に包まれた客席のざわめきや、まわりのうきうきした小話に耳を傾けて次の幕を待つ時間。夜が更けるのを忘れて読みふけった本に栞をはさむ時間。このプロジェクトは、そんな「幕間」のような心躍る時間を綴るために、「Intermission Ambience（幕間の雰囲気）」と名付けました。
Miki Hosaka-Green
Currently based in London, I grew up in Japan reading lots of books, writing diaries, essays and stories.
Theatre has been my ultimate passion seeing many touring shows in regional theatre when younger, going to many in Tokyo and The West End when I was older.
My passion led me to start writing about Japan themed Western theatre performances as a PhD Japanese Studies part-time researcher at SOAS, University of London from September 2025.
Alongside my full time job in the gaming industry, I am keen for creative opportunities related to theatre and Japanese culture, and have contributed as both a writer and consultant to many projects. I’ve recently started running my own workshops related to culture and performance.

Photography is also my passion, and I’ve been running a lifestyle project called @mikitravelgram since 2017.

幼い頃から読むことや書くこと、写真を撮ることが大好きでした。
舞台鑑賞は心からの趣味で、幼い頃は地元の劇場にくるツアー公演を、大人になってからは東京やウェスト・エンドの公演をたくさん鑑賞してきました。
2025年9月からはロンドン大学SOASにてJapanese Studies博士課程に進学、日本をテーマにした西洋の舞台について研究しています。
また、ゲーム業界での仕事の傍ら、舞台関連のエッセイやコンサルティング業務、文化とパフォーマンスに関するワークショップも開催するなど、研究にまつわるクリエイティブな活動にも挑戦しています。
